Watford to run for county commissioner Thomasville Times Article - Sam Watford, a registered Republican, has filed to run for the Board of Davidson County Commissioners.
“The office of Davidson County Commissioner involves managing people, growth, and money, all areas I have experience in,” Watford said.
Watford, 49, of Denton Road in Thomasville, currently serves on the Davidson County Planning and Zoning Board. He is also the Liberty Precinct Chairman.
“I am an optimist. I believe that our current economic situation will improve in the next few months. If, however, budget cuts become necessary, they must be made as fairly as possible.
“I do not believe in taking money from the contingency fund at this time,” Watford continued. “That money is put aside for a rainy day. This is just a light shower.”
Watford has been a lifetime resident of Davidson County and is employed with the Watford Construction Company. He has been married to the former Karen Hege for 23 years, and has two children; 19-year-old Jordan and 18-year-old Morgan.
Watford graduated from Guilford Technical Institute in 1976 with a degree in civil engineering technology. He graduated in 1973 from Western Carolina University.
He is a member of the Liberty Baptist Church, and is also a life member and past president of the Thomasville Jaycees. Additionally, he is a member of Thomasville Masonic Lodge #214, an Oasis Shriner, and the secretary of the Chair City Shrine Club.
“I will promote the basics of good county government, providing adequate facilities and services as efficiently as possible,” Watford said. click here for next article | |
